It was a wild spring. In mid-March, I started homeschooling my pre-teen just as academics and extra-curriculars ramped up for my teen. Brian’s grandmother died at the age of 99 and his uncle died shortly thereafter. So family took priority that season while work was comfortably steady. I’ve had my head down in building mode and look forward to launching some things this summer. Continue reading for specific updates on business and life.

Business

• Celebrated my 19th year in business this week.
• Working on the design and development of the following communities: That Google Group with Adrienne Farrow, YouTube Share Your Channel and Grow (soon to be renamed and reborn), and Dysregulated Faith with Sandra Littlejohn (membership launching Fall 2026)
• Having fun hosting a weekly live #dinochat with fellow Internet Dinosaur Rachel Allen. Each Wednesday, we talk about what we’re seeing and hearing in the world of online business and how it compares to what we’ve experienced in the past.
• Co-leading Velocity Generator, a unique cohort-based program that marries accountability and group consulting, for service providers with Gwen Bortner.
  • She’s also co-leading a cohort for independent retailers, manufacturers and makers with Heidi Kaisand of American Quilt Retailer and Hen & Chicks Studio.

Personal

• Building a front yard foodscape in California’s Central Valley (Zone 9a).
  • I need to take photos but most recently, I planted a citrus grove (Meyer lemon, Bearss lime, calamondin, Satsuma mandarin, and blood orange) with strawberries, chamomile, basil, oregano and garbanzo beans. I also have a fig tree and two persimmons waiting to be planted. My attempt at growing spinach, onions, garlic and carrots failed, but I’ve had success with nasturtiums, lettuces, calendula, yarrow, and salvia. I have 18 tomato plants in hopes at least one will produce something.
• Cooking A LOT (but not always cooking well)
• Golden Valley AME Boosters, the nonprofit I founded, turned 1 this month and we have a lot to celebrate: renting a storage space for costumes and props, presenting the first-ever Merced County film fest, awarding student scholarships and supporting the educational activities of students in the arts, media and entertainment program.
• Row Don’t Drift, which brings the story of Brian’s great-uncle Yoshi Kubo to life, is making its way through the indie film fest circuit.
• Supporting Lily’s business venture, Abilities and Attitudes.

Looking Ahead

• Planning the first-ever Dino Summit, Been There. Homeschooled That for homeschoolers in their first three years (coming Sept. 1).
• Showing up as a guest on more podcasts (Goal is 40 interviews by the end of 2026)
• Revising the premise of my first book based on several podcast interviews.
